Home Assignment Update- 001

Colossians 3:12-13 reads: "Put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you." The implication is that we don't have to go to the mat over every issue and offense. We all sin in many ways and while often the loving thing to do is to confront, sometimes the best course of action is to recognize the weaknesses of [my brother], refuse to be offended by their sin, and bathe them in love.
- Gary Gilly in this month's "Think on These Things."

What a blessing these words were to me today, perhaps they will be to you too.

Here is a quick update on our upcoming furlough- I know the world is full of people dying to know* so here is the latest.

*Well, the truth is, that the world is full of people dying to know that there is righteousness that awaits every sinner who repents. This is the righteousness of Christ. (And this is a different blog post.)

In the last couple of weeks we have:

  • purchased our tickets
  • resolved the question about where we will store our things here in Brazil
  • put together a good plan to sell our car
  • been blessed by a generous offer for transportation while in the states
  • put together pending plans for a couple of missions conferences, made initial contacts with seven churches
  • requested Carter's brazilian passport, which was promised to arrive in a week
  • been assured by immigration that our request for permanency here in Brazil will be granted, possibly yet this month
  • completed the transfer of the youth group to the capable team led by Otavio and Maria

Before the end of September we hope to

  • complete our schedule through March of 2012
  • prepare sermons and presentations
  • host Arne and Rubenita
  • enjoy the celebrations around Semana da Farroupilha
  • whatever else might show up of interest
  • help Carter birth the next four teeth that have decided to come all at once
  • enjoy living in our own house for as long as possible
