Pacoti, Ceara, Brasil
Here we stand in front of the newest addition (the recently purchased neighbor's home) to New Hope Retreat and Conference Center.
We spent two days after conference up in the cool air and steep inclines of Ceara's high country (about 4,000 ft. above sea level).

Mercy Nichols (an MK) contemplates the fun she is having hiking a mountain trail. There were about 20 kids and teens in all that we helped teach in various roles.

One of those roles was the sometimes bumbling, sometimes stumbling travelers to five different countries along with Kenny the Lizard (the green blob on Jon's right shoulder, played by a capable Mark Stucky). Our skits took us to every country we visited during VBS where cultural experiences left their marks.

An uninvited though welcome guest at the BGFM Field Conference was this overgrown jungle toad. He along with grasshoppers, beetles, moths and mosquitoes all looking like professional baseball players on steroids, helped to make our introduction to Brazil a bit exciting. (Ask us later about sugar ants in the bed!)
A fisherman works his boat after bringing it to shore on the busy beach in Fortaleza. They'd probably only been out all day on this boat but it's not uncommon for them to spend up to three days on one of these little jangadas. We watched as the local merchants came rushing down to purchase the fish they had just brought in.
More to come . . .
Jon and Denielle
