07/07/07 (revisited again)

Having received a new power cord yesterday and having put it to good use already, I now sit uninterrupted with our own laptop and am able to complete the post I started on Monday as long as the wireless connection from the City of Virginia Public Library (MN) remains in tact.

I though I'd start with a few pictures of what it looked like a couple of days after the fire came through. For those of you who remember it, we would have been standing in the front yard looking at the deck (which was about 6 feet + off the ground).
In this photo we would have been looking from the north corner of the living room back across the living room into the kitchen. That was one hot fire to say the least. The pickup (the blue in the trees) is still an amazing situation. I don't understand how the whole house disintegrated like that and the pickup didn't explode. There was quite a bit of gas in the tank too. There is a short video from the first time we were taken out by the red cross worker, complete with a few sniffles from Denielle, down at the bottom of the page.
Here are a couple of pictures from one of the last times we were there. (Maybe April or February?) Today it is being transformed into a horse pasture complete with a big stack of straw. Most of the charred trees have been removed too.

I continue to praise the Lord for how He has chosen to use this event in our lives for good. When biblical truths which I have heard for years but have never had the opportunity to assimilate suddenly have an opportunity to take root in our lives in a dramatic and real way, it is truly special.

Thank You Lord for this work which You have begun. Thank you that it is not complete yet though we hope confidently for the day when Christ will be formed in us.

A quick visa update today as well: I called the consulate this afternoon just in case something had come through for us and the kind lady on the other end was quick to remind me that it would be at least 40 days though this time she tacked on an extra 20 by saying "40-60 days." So we wait on the Lord still and rejoice that in this time of waiting He has a purpose He desires to fulfill, not any less dramatic than the one accomplished through those fiery days of July 2007. Have have been meditating on a few chapters in Psalms this week: 28-30. A couple of verses from 29: "The voice of the Lord is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; the Lord is over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; The voice of the Lord is full of majesty." And from 30: "Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning."

Enjoy the video clip.
